Health Care
In the past. it was a small clinic with just one practitioner. Patients were just looked at and then forwarded to specialists in either Alexandria or Cairo. The clinic did not have a laboratory and was equipped with nothing but some chairs and a bed. If an injury occurred on the job, it took long time to reach the patient. This situation waists time which could result in deteriorating the patient’s situation.

However, Magrabi Agriculture did its best to assist and transport the patient to the closest medical facility. If this seems a gloomy picture, the area around the farm does not even have such a small clinic and patents have to go on their own to the nearest hospital. Further, if anyone in the town was injured, it was almost impossible to find a vehicle to transport this person to a medical center. However, Magrabi in its role for elevating workers conditions and the town around us is helping people in these towns who need any medical assistance. It was the safety net for everybody in the town. With this increasing demand on Magrabi Agriculture, the need for a bigger clinic and an ambulance was imminent.

Now. The Magrabi’s Fairtrade joint body committee agreed on establishing a new medical facility to include all what is needed to help workers and the neighboring area. The project was initiated in 2007 and was completed in 2008.

The used to be a small clinic is now a medical facility with an MD. There are 3 nurses running the facility 24/7. The waiting area can take about 12 patients and the examination room is a lot bigger. The new clinic is now equipped with a state of the art ultra sound machine and many other equipments. The MD can perform many small operations that were referred to hospitals in the past.

It is very important in the agricultural business to conduct a six months Cholinesterase analysis for workers who handle pesticides to measure the work impact on their health.

This analysis is now being done at the Magrabi’s clinic which saves time and money. In addition, an ambulance was bought to speed up transporting patients from the injury site to the clinic or the nearest hospital if needed. The ambulance, therefore, provides a safe transportation for the patient because of the nurse available in the ambulance.
